  1. RMJ Shrike Hawk 5 Star Review

Posted by on 1st Jul 2016

Best hawk I have ever owned. This hawk is balanced well. The handle gives you a very good grip even with sweaty hands. Watch all the videos, read the reviews, and then buy it.

I immediately went to chopping some small mesquite limbs in my brush pile the day it came in. The razor sharp cutting edge made extremely short work of everything. The balance and handle gave a great rebound to every swing and made the work much easier than my CRKT trail hawk. This hawk holds an edge very well and the finish takes a beating like a champ.

One thing I would note. All the warnings on the site, reviews, and literature that comes with your hawk are no joke. I was making a point to be extra careful to avoid the beard and face of the hawk when un-sheathing it the first couple of times and I still got a little cut on my thumb. The spike tip is very sharp. Not gonna knock the hawk or RMJ crew for that. I was warned a dozen or more times and still managed to get my thumb in the wrong spot.

Overall I am extremely pleased with my purchase and am already trying to decide what I am getting next. You do get what you pay for and RMJ offers a great product at a reasonable price. Anything hand made in the USA is gonna cost more than the mass produced import junk. If I am camping, hunting, or in a survival situation I want the tool that will not fail and this is it.

Awesome weapon/tool! The Shrike is my second RMJ tomahawk, and like my Eagle Talon, it is nothing short of awesome! So well made and such attention to detail. I could go on and on like others have, but you all get the point. If you want the last tomahawk you'll ever need, and you want the best of the best..... Spend the money, you will not regret it. Im looking towards the JennyWren for my third.

In an earlier review, a customer wrote that he wasn't happy with the finish and stated that the metal had flaws. I'm thinking that Mr Johnson did not cnc that area to show that it was hammer forged. That is one of the reasons I love my Shrike, it shows it was forged.
Thank you Thank you Thank you RMJ for making such weapons available for us! You are the best!!

  3. RMJ Hawks... Simplicity/Heritage/Quality a true Badass Tool 5 Star Review

Posted by on 19th Jan 2016

I am the proud owner of a 1st generation Krestrel, Berserker and Little Bird, a Tengu Ono and now a Shrike. Each Hawk has its own application (some just because) and I can already see that the Shrike will become part of my everyday kit with its versatility. It feels really good in the hand, looks like it means business, is razor sharp (was able to "shave" the hair right off my hand) and I love that the handle is insulated... lights off folks!!! I highly recommend this or any other RMJ Tomahawk to anyone that wants a real quality tool that is worth every penny of the price, besides when you would trust your life to a product the price you pay for it means nothing! Can't wait to buy my next one...

  4. Hammerforged Masterpieces 5 Star Review

Posted by on 20th Nov 2015

It finally came to me what the Shrike and Shrike S-13 remind me of: the good guys' swords in J.R.R. Tolkein's Lord of the Rings trilogy: beautifully-wrought, deadly practical.

I like the Shrikes because they're hammer-forged; making them (theoretically) a bit tougher.

The only difference between the fullsize Shrike and the smaller S-13 is 2 inches of handle length and 3 oz of weight: the heads are identical. So if you're in a situation where 'every ounce counts' or where shorter is handier, the S-13 is the way to go.

OTOH, the fullsize Shrike has the potential to hit a bit harder, due to its longer handle. Either way, you've got a tool and/or weapon that's as good-looking as it is useful.
